Sow from March and later thin out from planting to 20x20 cm. The best time to sow is at a temperature between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius. Chives need cold to germinate.

1 gram of fine chive seeds, approximately 800 seeds per gram.

Sow from March at 15–20 °C and transplant at 20 × 20 cm, or sow directly in May–June. Cut for harvest in July–August; the plant regrows.
