Butternut squash 'Butternut' is a traditional, graded variety that produces cream-colored fruits. The fruits have a small seed cavity, soft taste and a moderate shelf life.
Sow in the last 2 weeks of April and the first 2 weeks of May (do not make it too wet during germination). Plants can be planted from early May to mid-May (1 plant per m2). This way the plant has enough time to let the fruits ripen; earlier sowing is therefore preferable to later sowing. Harvest: before frost when the leaves are green. Use in soups and pies. Store dry at 10-15C.
