These seeds come with an organic certified coating, which sums it up. Celeriac 'Balena F1' has the reputation of being one of the best celeriac varieties on the market. The variety is very suitable for cultivation under Dutch conditions. This celeriac has beautiful large white flesh and a skin with few brown spots. The variety does not flower quickly and is very resistant to cold.
Celeriac performs best in cold, wet conditions. This vegetable is therefore an excellent alternative for less well-drained soils, especially since celeriac needs a lot of water during cultivation. After harvesting, the celeriac can taste a bit bitter. If the tubers are stored just above freezing for a few days, this makes them a bit sweeter. Can be stored cool and moist for up to two weeks. Note: not only the tuber, but also the stems are tasty, for example in soup, pasta sauce or chowder. However, just like parsnips, the leaves can absorb irritations to the skin. Wear gloves and long sleeves if you are sensitive to this.
Outdoor cultivation. Pre-sowing: 10-12 weeks before planting out. Note: Celeriac germinates very slowly. Do not sprinkle, keep the potting soil moist.Planting out: end of April-mid June, Harvesting: August-November, approx. 150 days after planting out (optimum with a view to good storability)
