The annual safflower has traditionally been cultivated as an oil and dye plant. The safflower oil is extracted from the seeds. Thistle-like plant with slightly spiky leaves and flowers that change color from yellow via orange to red. Nowadays known as a cut and dried flower. Birds and mice love the seeds.
