Standard Pea 'Kelvedon Wonder' is a sweet crinkle standard variety (no mesh support required). There are hardly any problems with diseases and pests. Length approx. 70 cm.
Pre-sowing in a pot or seed tray can be done in February and then planted out in March at a planting distance of 50x3 cm. You can also sow directly into the ground in March and April at the same planting distance. The harvest period is from June to July. Problems with diseases and pests are very rare, which makes it all the more attractive to grow your own peas. When growing peas, men can do with little manure. Two main groups can be distinguished: short with a length of up to approx. 70 cm (trunk) and long types (rise types).
In principle, the stem varieties can be developed without support, but here too cultivation along (short) meshes of rice wood has advantages: picking is done thoroughly and there are no pods on the ground. A usual row spacing for stem varieties is 50 cm, sow in rows at 5 cm. Sow deep enough (3 to 4 cm) to avoid mice and birds. Early sowing (March/April) gives the best result for all capuchins, peas and snow peas; cultivation in May and later gives sufficient pod setting and problems with mildew.
