Summer time is a perennial kitchen herb and produces beautiful tender stems with strongly scented leaves. Thyme is an indispensable herb in Mediterranean cuisine.
Summertime is somewhat less hardy than Thyme 'German Winter'. An advantage of summer time is that it grows a lot faster than Thyme 'German Winter', and the stems are also more tender and less woody.
Sow summertime indoors in March and April in pots or trays, and plant summertime in open ground or in a greenhouse in May. Maintain a planting distance of 30x15 cm or 25x25 cm.
The first harvest will take place from the end of June. Earlier harvests will also be possible in the following years, depending on the location; the warmer and cloudier, the sooner you can harvest. Summertime blooms at the beginning of the second year.
Harvest time by cutting the stems a few inches above the soil or pot.
You should preferably plant thyme in a sunny, dry spot in your garden, with little fertilizer. Thyme does not like wet feet.
