All little critters help.
Everything happens in the soil. Countless animals, bugs and other microscopic grits are busy eating each other or being eaten. Each part is important for the others to ensure that the soil is in top condition.
How this works and what happens in the soil is described in the book the Soil Food Web. The material is discussed in depth and is therefore best a spicy book, but indispensable for those who will better understand how a soil works and what happens in it.
Of course, the worms also have their own chapter. :)
