Winter carrot 'Flakkée 2' are large orange carrots and form a large crop. The carrots are nice and sweet and can be stored very well after harvest.
Winter carrot can only be sown in the months of April and May. Sow the seeds directly into the ground. Best on elevated ridges. Make sure the soil is nicely loosened. The finer the soil, the better the root can grow straight and long. Maintain a row spacing of 20 cm. You sow the seeds in rows between your fingers. When the plants are thinned out to a planting distance of 20x5 cm. solution of the removed root thickness, a wider or closer planting distance can also be maintained. With a wider planting distance between the roots, the roots will grow faster and the roots will have more room to grow into thicker roots. A smaller planting distance results in thinner roots.
Carrot fly problems are the best insect screen solutions; cover soon after emergence. A simple framework/cage works best to wash out the carrot fly.
The roots can be harvested in October and November. Keep the roots cool and prevent them from drying out. Don't be surprised by mice.
